If the veins are enlarged, what to do?

leg pain with varicose veins

Varicose veins are a disease of veins that is expressed by an increase in their size, change in shape and decrease in elasticity. The superficial veins of the lower extremities, the venous plexus of the rectum, the veins of the portal system and the spermatic cord are predominantly affected.

The appearance of varicose veins is facilitated by difficulties with the outflow of blood through the venous system during a systematic long stay on the feet associated with professional activities, compression of the pelvic veins by the uterus during pregnancy, clogging of the pelvic veins, for example, with systematic constipation, sedentary work, etc.

Sitting slows down circulation and blood stagnates. Long periods of inactivity and sitting can destroy the heart of people who sit for long periods, deep vein thrombosis of the calf can develop. It is harmful to sit with your legs crossed, because you can press on the popliteal artery, which will cause the veins to become blocked.

Clothing and shoes should not be tight, as this can also slow blood flow. Walking on grass, dirt or just barefoot around the house improves circulation and strengthens the heart. Congenital weakness of the venous wall and insufficiency of the venous valves predispose to the onset of the disease. Ulcers can develop over time due to poor blood supply.

One of the early symptoms of the disease is a feeling of heaviness in the legs, dull or sharp pain and cramps at night. If left untreated, varicose veins eventually become hard and thick, and ulcers and bleeding often appear on the legs.

Dilated veins that form in the scrotum are called varicocele (dilated veins of the spermatic cord). If they appear in the rectum, then they are called hemorrhoids.

Phlebitis (vein inflammation), enlarged ulcers, severe itching, skin discoloration (which often turns copper-red) are common complications of this condition. But only a small percentage of those with varicose veins develop varicose ulcers. People with varicose veins are thought to have congenital veins with weak walls.

But weak vessel walls are most likely the result of poor diet, toxemia, innervation (decreased nerve condition) and lack of exercise. In most cases, when varicose veins form during pregnancy, they disappear after delivery. With the help of enough active physical exercises, varicose veins that appeared during pregnancy can be eliminated even when a woman is in a position.

Failed surgery to remove or drain the veins Using elastic stockings or bandages to support the veins is only half the measure and eventually leads to such weakening of the tissue that the condition becomes chronic or much more difficult to treat.

How to prevent varicose veins:

  • Avoid sitting for a long time in one position so that the muscles do not become numb and standing for a long time;
  • Perform daily physical exercises for your legs: often climb on your toes, climb stairs, swim, walk 1-3 km, stay in a pose with your legs raised above the level of your heart for at least an hour;
